Overview

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon is located less than 15 miles south of Bakersfield, on Tejon Indian tribal land in Mettler, situated at the southernmost tip of California’s Southern San Joaquin Valley and nestled near the base of the historic Grapevine mountain pass that connects Southern California to the Central Valley. This region of the San Joaquin Valley is home to one of the most productive agricultural counties in the country and is the center point of the state with access to the Central Coast and both Northern and Southern California within a couple hours’ drive. This project is the first of its kind in Kern County and will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will consist of an approximately 150,000 square foot casino featuring 3,000 slot machines, 48 table games, and multiple food and beverage venue including the renowned Hard Rock Café. Phase II will include a 400 room hotel, 2,800 seat Hard Rock Live event center, that will draw attractions like concerts, performances, and sporting events to name a few. In addition some of music’s most iconic memorabilia will be on display.

 

Job Summary

A member of the Executive Team, the Vice President – Security & Surveillance is responsible with overseeing the security, surveillance and risk management needs of the entire property and surrounding areas. The individual is involved in directing and coordinating activities relating to the protection, safeguarding and security of company assets, team members, guests, and others. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Creates an atmosphere that induces guests to make Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon their choice for gaming entertainment; responsible for actively building and retaining guest relations and acts as a mentor to team members in order to provide superior guest service.
  • Exhibits conduct in accordance with all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Notifies President of all pertinent incidents/events, violations of regulations, policies and/or procedures.
  • Responsible for protection of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon property assets.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Security and Surveillance Departments.
  • Initiate, conduct and assists in any internal or external investigations and provide assistance
    and/or direct involvement upon request with investigations being conducted by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon, Human Resources, Casino Management, and/or authorized local authorities.
  • Ensures the operation of a 24-hour, 7 day a week Security and Surveillance Operation to provide a
    timely response to routine and emergency situations.
  • Provides physical security, traffic, and parking control for Property.
  • Responsible for directing team members, completing, and reviewing performance reviews.
  • Responsible for reviewing and editing of incident reports prepared by team members for
    completeness and accuracy.
  • Interacts and assists Security Shift Manager(s), Surveillance leadership, and Risk Management personnel as necessary to provide adequate security and surveillance protection.
  • Ensures all team members are complying with regulations, ordinances, NIGC MICS, gaming compact,
    and company/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Patrol the Casino premises to ensure the safety of guests and team members and assists guests as
  • Responds to emergency incidents and takes action as necessary.
  • Responds to internal security alarms and takes action as necessary.
  • Provides for and/or schedules additional security as needed.
  • Takes required enforcement action for violations of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tejon Policies and standard procedures and if warranted, may call local authorities for assistance.
  • Recruits, interviews, and hires Security and Surveillance team members as needed.
  • Assists in training team members and developing and implementing standard operating procedure
    manual for Security and Surveillance departments.
  • Reviews all incident reports and statistical data.
  • Prepares operating budgets, monitors budgetary compliance, and takes action on budget variance
  • Manages lost and found inventory and overall disbursement.
  • Oversees Risk Management department and related team member initiatives.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence as required.
  • Ensures department's daily records are accurately maintained.
  • Monitors safety and surveillance systems for the property to ensure they are in proper working
    order and being used appropriately by team members.
  • Researches, evaluates, and tests latest technology in surveillance in order to develop the most
    appropriate system to achieve security, effectiveness, and cost efficiency objectives.
  • Works with the Operations Department to design and conduct highly sensitive investigations to
    facilitate fact-finding probe into potentially illegal or inappropriate activities.
  • Maintains video surveillance of the entire Hotel and Casino as well as required retention.
  • Video records gaming and security-related incidents within the realm of monitor room video
    recording and surveillance capabilities.
  • Makes recommendations in the development of gaming procedures to ensure that management
    takes into consideration the enforceability of such procedures from a surveillance perspective.
  • Ensures appropriate checks on vehicles and equipment are performed as required.
  • Ensures assignments of team members are providing adequate coverage.
  • Maintains good communication with team members and maintains a positive and professional work
  • Cultivate excellent relationships with regulatory agencies and local law enforcement to ensure the
    sharing of information as well as their awareness, trust and support.
  • Maintain excellent communication skills and interpersonal relations with guests, vendors, visitors,
    and team members.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Work flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the operation (i.e. nights, weekends and
    holidays).
  • Attends and participates in meetings, completing follow-up as assigned.
  • Attends seminars when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
(Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis)


This knowledge and these abilities are typically acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice,
or a closely related field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Ten (10) years
management experience in overseeing and managing of a Security and Surveillance Department in a high-volume casino/hotel complex environment required.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (Licenses, Certifications, Testing, etc.):

  • Must obtain and maintain valid licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Gaming regulations.
  • Prior experience opening new properties/outlets preferred.
  • Must successfully pass background check.
  • Must successfully pass drug screening.
  • Prior experience in the Gaming industry strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in Tribal Gaming preferred.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.


KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Thorough understanding of Federal/State civil laws, criminal laws, and Gaming regulations.
  • Knowledge of State and local laws concerning powers of arrest.
  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software
    applications such as word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases to include excellent
    working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Effective communications skills.
